External Counterpulsation and method of minimizing end diastolic cardiac external counter pulsation angina therapy-external counter therapy
External Counter Pulsation is an acceptable clinical method that is known to improve the perfusion of vital organs by increasing the mean aortic diastolic pressure. It also decreases left ventricular afterload, decreases left ventricular oxyzen demand, which results in better-left ventricular performance and a higher cardiac output. This technique is widely used in patients with acute ischemic syndromes and cardiogenic shock. Clinically, diastolic counterpulsation has been achieved in the past with an intra aortic balloon pump which being an invasive has its own complications.
* External Counter Pulsation Technique is a non-invasive alternative treatment modality developed in 1960's. This therapy does not require any type of anaesthesia and generally feels like a vigorous massage. The system improves cardiac function by enhancing perfusion of coronary vasculature. This is an exciting state-of-art technology that is safe & non-invasive. It improves circulation to vital organs that increases the energy level of the patients, increases their sleep at night and helps them be more alert and mentally focused.
* Clinical studies over the past several years have shown that about 75% of patients treated with a single course at ECP experience a reduction in angina and are able to return to a more active lifestyle.
